Freedom Pharmacy Social Enterprise Pilot

A pre-launch pharmacy that will keep essential medicine affordable and use everyday sales to fund charitable care.

This initiative is separate from our operating free clinics. The first pharmacy is now in pre-launch development in Yemen and has not yet begun serving customers or patients.

Launch funding progress
One pharmacy, two pricing approaches

How the pricing will work

Essential medicines will stay as affordable as possible. Sales of other medicines and health products will help cover costs and fund charitable care.

01

Critical medicines

At cost or a 3–5% markup

Essential medicines will be sold at cost or with only a small markup, so urgent treatment stays within reach.

02

Noncritical medicines and health products

A 25–40% markup

Other medicines and health products will be sold at standard prices. Those sales will cover pharmacy costs and fund patient assistance.

The Freedom Care Fund

How each sale will support charitable care

When the pharmacy launches, Freedom Philanthropies' share of pharmacy earnings will go into a dedicated Care Fund. The fund will provide essential medicines at no cost to patients who meet clear eligibility requirements and still cannot afford the low pharmacy price.

In simple terms, the pharmacy will earn income through normal sales and use part of that income to help patients who cannot pay. The free medical clinics will remain a separate program.

Why a second model

Free care today. A sustainable access model for tomorrow.

Pre-launch initiative

Social Enterprise Pilot

The retail pharmacy will keep essential medicine affordable and use sales income to support the Care Fund.

Funding the launch

$30,000 committed. $30,000 remaining.

The Yemen pilot requires $60,000 in startup funding. Freedom Philanthropies and a local pharmacist partner have each committed $15,000, leaving $30,000 to fully fund the launch.

$30,000 Remaining to launch

What the startup funding will pay for

  • Opening inventory of essential medicines and health products
  • Pharmacy setup, solar power, and equipment that keeps medicine safely chilled
  • Licensing, setup, and launch costs
  • Early operating costs while the pharmacy gets established

These are pre-launch uses of funds, not expenses from an operating pharmacy.
