The Situation in Egypt

A region under strain

Rising prices and currency pressure have made daily food unaffordable for many Egyptian households, with bread, cooking oil, and protein climbing faster than incomes.

Egypt also shoulders one of the region's largest displaced populations. Palestinian families, Sudanese arrivals since the outbreak of war, and long-settled refugees from across East Africa and the Middle East all rely on the same overstretched safety nets.
